Winter #1

I live in the knowledge that my life hangs by a thread.

In years past, that vision has opened my eyes at major turning points and crises of my life. At times, the thread held, the earth blossomed, but it was not a garden I had planted. At times, the thread broke, and I died, with the land denuded by insects, nature foreign, flooding covering so much of the land that I learned to live underwater. Other times, I learned how to drop. And at other times, survival skills developed from living at the bottom of the cliff, at the shore, collecting seashells and footprints and scavenging with the animals.

On this first day of the new year, I see this vision arise before my eyes to once more live hanging by a thread, and to once more have animals guide survival.
